Are you a knitter? Do you love buying yarn in hanks? Then you need to know about Yllep's ball winder! If you ever thought about buying a ball winder and did some research on what's on the market, you very likely found a plethora of plastic winders, and none or very few made from natural materials. Before I got mine (a lovely gift from my parents – thanks, Mama & Papa!), I contemplated buying a ball winder for the longest time and just couldn't really bring myself to invite a plastic one into our home and my making space. When I stumbled upon Yllep's website during my research and found out that she and her husband sell handmade, wooden ball winders, I knew I found exactly what I was looking for. Curious to see more?

Each one of Yllep's ball winders is carefully handmade by her and her husband and comes with the cutest details, like the little carved "Y&T". Just place it on any surface, fix it with the metal clamp, adjust the angle that works best for you, and you're good to go! To wind up your yarn (I used Raincloud & Sage Yarn's Origin here), you'll need to place the hank on a swift, thread one end of the yarn through the metal grommet and fix it, and then you'll crank. While cranking, I like to adjust the tension by running the yarn through my left hand. Once you caked up the entire hank, you can carefully loosen the end you fixed at the beginning and remove your new yarn cake from the winder. And that's it! After trying various ball winders in different yarn stores, I can safely say that I hav found my absolute favourite, and I was very happy to see many of my friends buy the same over the last couple of months. Maybe it's just what you've been looking for as well? If you have any questions, just let me know in the comments, and I'll be more than happy to help!

At 70€ + shipping, I think Yllep's ball winder is very reasonably priced, especially if you consider the very high quality and that each one is made by hand individually. To order, you can contact Yllep via email at yllepal@gmail.com.
